For those of you who don’t know about Ad Extensions, or just haven’t gotten the motivation to use them yet, this article is for you.
Location Extensions, allow you to add an address to your Adwords ad. You can include your address by manually entering it into your location extension (found on the Extensions tab of your account) or you can link your Google Places account to your Adwords account (recommended). Your business location will be included in your ad, along with a blue ‘pin’ on the Google Map results.
Call Extensions allow you to include your business phone number to your ad. This adds credibility to your ad, as well as lets mobile users “click-to-call” your number. The popularity of mobile searches has grown tremendously in recent years. Users are not only searching for businesses, but they are converting on their mobile devices. It would be interesting to split-test whether users are more likely to click a local number versus a toll-free number. Let me know if any of you readers try testing this & report back!
Product Extensions, allow businesses to link their Google Merchant Center account with their Adwords account. This will let Google populate product images & prices into your ad. It is a great way for users to quickly get the information they are looking for. Keep in mind this might not be the best strategy if your prices are considerably higher than your competitors.
Ad SiteLinks allow you to include unique links under your ads that direct users to specific pages your website. You are also able to see the performance of these links in your reporting. I always like to include persuasive copy in my links to help improve click-through-rate. Such as “book a consultation today” lining directly to the booking page.
So basically, use Ad Extensions, they are simple to set up & easy to track. Always keep in mind; anything that can make your ad stand out from the crowd is a good thing!
